Jalapeno Popper Cups

I love Jalapeno Poppers! My first experience with them was when I was a day old in the US… 🙂 An international student from India in Chico, California who was amazed at the warmth of not just the weather but the people of California. I was a week from starting my masters program and was just taking in the sights and sounds of this new place. Not having enough money meant I was either cooking all my meals or eating at Taco-Bell and Jack-in-the-Box. Up until then I hadn’t really missed the spicy foods of India, but my first bite into a Jalapeno popper and I was reminded of the awesome spicy-ness that I had grown up with. These felt like mirch (thai chili) pakoras (fritters) and helped with the home-sickness that would hit me from time to time.

Fast forward to today… When I have friends over, I’m all about simple finger foods, that don’t need too many plates and napkins, just easy food that you can pick up and pop into your mouth. My discovery of the Mini Fillo shell cups is an amazingly fulfilling one. I’ve made Baklava Phyllo Cups and Paneer Tikka Phyllos with them and frankly, the possibilities are endless!

Michael Natkin’s Chevre with Sauteed Grapes and Fresh Herbs

Michael Natkin made this recipe for us when we met him at the Cookhouse SF. He actually made this mind-blowing appetizer for us under a minute!

This is us with him and his amazing book! It is an absolute must-read for vegetarians interested in world cuisine.

Even though I just called the book a must-read for vegetarians, it shouldn’t get pigeon-holed as just for vegetarians. The flavors that he has been able to bring out from his recipes are simply mind-blowing. I’ve tried a bunch of recipes from his cookbook and blog, and I eat chicken and seafood and so I can say with certainty, “Delicious, Mind-Blowing Taste” is what he brings to you!

Asparagus Cheese Dip with Crackers

The last 2 weeks have been a roller coaster ride of sorts for Raj and me. First it was the ramp up to building “Velvet Aroma”, then BlogHer Food and meeting all these amazing foodies, then the trip back (bags lost etc…) and now we are winding down and coming back to regular life. Another biggie for me is, I decided to become gluten free. I have been dealing with Hashimoto’s for about 7 years now and all the doctors told me was that I have to take a pill of thyroid everyday for the rest of my life. I tried to look for alternatives back then, but nothing really came of it. Then I ran into Glutenfree Homemaker and Mrs. Q at the conference and hearing about their experience, I got hope that I might just be able to get rid of it by figuring out what allergen does not suit my body. So starting out with gluten as the first one. Wish me luck! 🙂

Now back to the recipe… I’ve got this new found love for Asparagus and I’ve been thinking of different combinations that I could try out. I thought of an asparagus cheese dip that I could Read More
