Sugar Free Sunday & The Olympics Part 2

Welcome to one of the sweetest weekly virtual potluck get-together ever! Yes indeed — it is Sugar Free Sunday! We host it every Sunday to exchange incredible sugar free recipes. Inspiration to start the week right? You bet!

This week is another week filled with nothing but Olympics in my home. Much like Sonia’s experience, the Olympics have been quite inspiring. I’ve caught myself saying several times this week — “If I just put my mind to it and train, I’m sure I could compete in the Olympics”. And I’m not alone. I’ve heard this same thing said by several co-workers and family members. The Olympics have been inspiring.

As you all know, besides being sugar free, I am gluten free. Did you know that there are several Olympic athletes that are gluten free? A few of them actually suffer from celiac disease, but many actually have gone to a gluten free diet because they’ve found that it helps them preform better. Here are some of the gluten free Olympic athletes:

Andrew Steele

Andrew Steele – Relay Race Runner

Jenn Suhr

Jenn Suhr – Pole Vault

Nathan Brannen

Nathan Brannen – Men’s 1500m

Dana Vollmer

Dana Vollmer – Swim

Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic – Men’s Single Tennis

Jessica Zelinka

Jessica Zelinka – Track and Field

Wonder how long before athletes realize that being sugar-free will help their performance as well? Any guesses? I say by the next olympics we’ll see a few.

How do you participate in the virtual potluck?

  • Link your recipe post (NOT your homepage) if it does not use refined sugar. Your blog does not have to be entirely sugar free, just the dish you’re sharing!
  • Please link back to this get-together somewhere in your post’s text. It’s a great way to invite your readers to the fun!
  • Sign up for free to our new venture Velvet Aroma. It’s a visual way to read the blogs you love and really bring their recipes into your kitchen.
